Out of necessity cars are small in Rome (and all of Italy) as parking spaces are at a premium, not to mention the price of gas is off the charts.

So thinking that frequent trips to the local mall are a must, especially for things like shoes and cosmetics, my lovely wife tried to convince me that the best solution to that problem is the Mercedes Smart Car. You see them everywhere, and they're so small they can literally park anywhere.

There's room for two with only a tiny storage space behind the passengers. Current prices are near $12,000 euros ($15,000), and you can pick from a wide variety of colors.

"Well," she asks. "What do you think. Should we buy one or lease one?"

"My dear," I replied. "I really like the car but I have a better solution for your shopping needs right here"
